Justin Moslet certainly feels this way, but fortunately, a Denver-based organization called Operation TBI Freedom has helped him get the emotional support he needs.
Moslet is a war veteran and says that after he returned home from war he began to ride his mountain bike to get the same rush that he felt while fighting. He was an avid rider until one day when he took a hard fall and suffered a TBI.
Moslet was airlifted off the mountain and doctors soon discovered that he could not move his left leg. He also could not understand simple mathematics, so he began traumatic brain injury treatment where he met his wife, a math tutor.
He says that many people do not understand how emotionally taxing living with a traumatic brain injury is, but that Operation TBI Freedom has helped him to connect with others suffering from a traumatic brain injury which has helped him psychologically. The organization has also helped his wife find support groups for wives and other family members who have been affected by a TBI.
Operation TBI Freedom is part of a larger organization called Denver Options which helps individuals and their familiesÂ’ find TBI resources. Operation TBI Freedom helps military families find such services. Specifically, it helps these families with the transition back into the community. Families often call Operation TBI Freedom when they are in a crisis and the organization can help them get connected to Veterans' Administration (VA) and community benefits. They also link soldiers to support groups, housing, counseling, legal help, and low cost child care. Operation TBI Freedom has care coordinators that help people find therapists, assistive technologies, employment support, financial assistance and other help which may include finding a potential brain damage attorney.
According to many experts, a TBI is not always easy to diagnose, as many who suffer from it start off by having memory problems which could be misdiagnosed as something else.
