In August 2010, a DePuy hip implant recall was issued after a study revealed that more patients than expected who were implanted with the ASR XL Acetabular Hip System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System experienced pain and other symptoms which required a second hip procedure, also known as a corrective surgery.
