ClassAction.org Alerts Consumers of Reglan Black Box Warning

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 26, 2010 ) New York, NY - ClassAction.org is alerting consumers of a black box warning for Reglan and other metoclopramide-containing drugs, which are used to treat gastrointestinal disorders. The Reglan black box warning highlights the risk of tardive dyskinesia, a disorder that causes involuntary movements of the face and extremities. The strongest FDA warning, a black box warning means the drug carries a risk of serious or life-threatening side effects.

The Reglan black box warning states that patients using metoclopramide as a long-term treatment or in high doses are at risk for the neurological disorder tardive dyskinesia. Patients with the greatest risk for this Reglan side effect are the elderly, particularly women, and those who have been taking the drug for a long period of time.

Tardive dyskinesia typically causes the following symptoms: grimacing, rapid eye blinking, lip smacking, tongue protrusion, pursing of the lips, and involuntary movements of the fingers, hands, arms, legs and shoulders. Some patients may also experience trouble breathing, swallowing, talking and walking. Unfortunately, symptoms of this Reglan side effect are rarely reversible and currently no treatment exists for tardive dyskinesia.

Reglan (generic: metoclopramide) is prescribed to treat acid reflux, diabetic gastroparesis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Reglan works by speeding up the stomach muscles, allowing the stomach to empty more quickly into the intestines. Reglan and other metoclopramide-containing drugs are not recommended to be used longer than three months. Prescribed to more than 2 million Americans, metoclopramide-containing products include Reglan tablets, Reglan injections, Reglan oral disintegrating tablets and metoclopramide oral solution.

If you or a loved one has developed tardive dyskinesia after taking Reglan or another metoclopramide drug, visit http://www.classaction.org/reglan.html today. You may be able to participate in a lawsuit to recover financial compensation. Fill out the free, no obligation case review form to have your Reglan injury claim reviewed today.
