Autoimmune thyroiditis in dogs is on the rise

(Medical-NewsWire.com, December 10, 2015 ) New York, NY -- It happens when the body's own antibodies begin to work against its own thyroid gland cells. This motivates the remaining thyroid gland cells to work hard to compensate for the lost ones. Finally when the thyroid gland is about 75% destroyed remaining cells are unable to produce enough thyroid hormone and that's when your pet begins to show symptoms.

Autoimmune diseases are commonly found in vaccinated dogs says a study conducted by Purdue University that was sponsored by the Haywood Foundation. This disease is often seen majorly in vaccinated dogs. The chances are they can be genetic if one generation has antibody thyroditis which is probably one of the reasons why hypothyroidism are on the higher side.

As per Manual of Natural Veterinary Medicine, 95% of the cases of hypothyroidism in dogs occur due to immune system that ruins the thyroid gland function and not due to iodine deficiency.

Few of the symptoms of autoimmune thyroiditis include

1. weight gain

2. dull coat

3. diarrhea or constipation

4. fatigue

5. changes in aggression

6. skin disorders (odor, greasy or dry skin)

7. furrows on forehead (skin wrinkling)

If your dog or cat is dealing with hypothyroidism take a good look at his vaccination program and talk to the Vet immediately. Meanwhile here is something that you can do. Natural remedies are readily available online for thyroid for dogs that alleviate the existing symptoms and easen out the healing process.
