According to Fox 2 News Detroit, Amy Merrick Proffit was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer in 2008. Prior to her diagnosis she worked as a nurse at the University of MIchigan Hospital. She also had 2 young children. Her illness made it so she could not work. Her husband also quit working to take care of her and their children. While the family battled the cancer, they also had to battle financial issues as well. Fox News was made aware of Amy and her family's situation after her children set up a lemonade stand to try to help earn money for their parents.
This sweet gesture of children led to a friend or family member setting up a "Go Fund Me" campaign to help raise funds to pay for Amy's unpaid medical bills. So far the fund campaign has raised of $17,500 of its $20,000 goal.
Abielle is a family company that honors mothers and family. When a member of Abielle's staff learned about Amy's situation, she made a donation to the "Go Fund Me" campaign. Amy has since passed away, but it is hopeful that the funds raised helped her family with some financial obligations.
