Canadian Research Study Reveals Diabetes Risk Can Increase By 50 Percent Due To RA

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 25, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- Diabetes is one of the most prevalent medical conditions nowadays, especially in countries such as the United States. It is believed to be caused by risk factors such as excess weight or obesity. There are other potential risk factors that are not known to people, and one is rheumatoid arthritis.

A Canadian research study reveals diabetes risk can increase by 50 percent due to RA. What makes this even worse is that individuals who are already suffering from the two conditions are more likely to suffer from other ailments, and live a low quality of life.

In the study, which was published in the annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, it was found that those who suffer from psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or other autoimmune forms of arthritis are more likely to develop diabetes by 50 percent.

The database of British Columbia was reviewed by researchers. They focused on the medical records from 1996 to 2006 and compared the data of thousands of individuals who suffered from psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and those without rheumatic diseases. They aimed to determine the level of diabetes risk the subjects were susceptible to. It is important to note that those who received medications for diabetes or diabetes diagnosis were considered diabetics. Researchers found that the risk of diabetes increased by 50 percent in individuals with psoriatic arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis than those without the diseases.

"The good news is that there are already many natural remedies available that are believed to fight arthritic conditions," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

The study author from the Division of Rheumatology, Brigham Women's Hospital, Daniel Solomon, M.D., believes that the risk of diabetes can potentially increase with age and the person's BMI or body mass index. Experts suggest that those who are at increased risk should be motivated to get rid of their excess pounds and achieve or maintain a healthy weight.

Dr. Solomon also states there is a possibility that inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis is associated with insulin resistance, and this often happens when the body is unable to process insulin in the right way. There are many ways to combat rheumatoid arthritis. This condition causes pain, which often results in immobility and weight gain.

People can take advantage of natural alternatives such as glucosamine supplements. Many individuals who use glucosamine testified that they have experienced some significant improvements in pain and mobility by using glucosamine supplements (amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
