Turmeric A Potentially Effective Remedy For Individuals With Major Depressive Disorder

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 20, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Turmeric is believed to be a powerful healing spice that can fight an extensive range of diseases. It is widely studied due to the therapeutic properties it contains. In addition to the benefits it offers to the body, it is also believed to be effective for improving mental health.

Turmeric is believed to be a potentially effective remedy for individuals with major depressive disorder. This spice contains a phytochemical ingredient called curcumin, which offers a variety of healing substances such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

"Curcumin supplements are available nowadays for individuals who want to take advantage of curcumin's therapeutic benefits," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

According to the new study published by the journal called Phytotherapy, a randomized and controlled clinical trial revealed that turmeric is a potentially safe and effective remedy for severe forms of depression.

The Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College in India was the venue of the study, which involved sixty participants diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The researchers aimed at determining the levels of efficacy between curcumin and a certain antidepressant in the condition of the participants for six weeks.

It was revealed that curcumin was a well-tolerated remedy for individuals with MDD. However, it has not been established yet whether or not it is also effective in individuals with other psychotic disorders or suicidal tendencies. Curcumin has been previously studied as an antidepressant remedy in animals.

The researchers revealed a dose of 8 grams of curcumin a day could potentially help fight the psychological condition. One of the best things about curcumin is that it contains neuroprotective properties, which are believed to help improve, restore, and maintain healthy brain function. What makes this phytochemical ingredient even more beneficial is that its use is not associated with side effects.

There are many medications and treatments for depression that have been the subject of major controversies due to the side effects associated with their use. Curcumin can be an ideal remedy for MDD because it is not just believed to be effective, but also safe to use.

Curcumin supplements have long been a popular remedy for a range of ailments, including arthritis. Many arthritis sufferers use curcumin supplements instead of pain relief drugs. According to them, they experienced improvement in pain and mobility in using curcumin and did not suffer from the side effects caused by pharmaceutical drugs.

The most popular curcumin supplements nowadays come with a black pepper extract called BioPerine, which is a bioavailability enhancing ingredient (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
