Drug Rehab Orlando Comments on Woman Leaving Children In The Car While Drinking At The Bar

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 20, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- According to WKMG Local 6 News, a 35-year-old woman has been arrested in Apopka following allegations of her leaving children in the car alone while she drank at the bar. April King of Central Florida has been arrested on charges of child neglect without great harm.

King had been drinking inside of Froggers Grill and bar at 1601 N. Rock Springs in Apopka around 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon while she left an undisclosed number of children alone in her car in the parking lot of the bar, according to the Orange County arrest affidavit.

Marvel Jackson, an employee of Froggers told his manager to call the police after spotting multiple children alone in the vehicle. "The kid hit the horn. When he hit the horn, I looked at the car and I see the little boy in the driver's seat and I noticed another child in the back and the car was running," said Jackson.

Several witnesses have confirmed that King had been inside of the bar drinking alcoholic beverages, and police were called shortly after it had been discovered that the children were in the car alone, according to authorities. One witness claims that the children were alone in the car by themselves for at least 20 minutes, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police say King then left the bar and drove over to a nearby AT&T store where she left the children in the car again for another 20 minutes before police officers arrived.

Witnesses say King had left the car running and the windows were all the way up when the children were found. Police say upon confronting King she was unstable with red glassy eyes and slurred speech. Although reports showed that King only had one drink, police say King admitted to being under the influence of the prescription drug Prozac.

According to reports, King had just been released from an alcohol rehabilitation facility in July after undergoing treatment for 54 days. As a result of the incident she has been arrested and taken to jail. The children, who are not physically injured, were placed into the custody of a family friend. Froggers has since banned King from the bar indefinitely.

An associate from Drug Rehab Orlando comments "I am just relieved those children were not harmed, however it is still a very misfortunate experience to had to have gone through. It's sad that people with substance abuse issues subject their loved ones to the consequences of their drinking problem. Imagine if someone attempted to kidnap those children, or if the car stopped running and there was no air circulating? I feel like as a nation we have to do more to raise awareness about substance abuse and its consequences."
