Experts Reveal The Reasons Why Women Need Omega-3 Fatty Acids

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 05, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- Nowadays, many women feel uncomfortable hearing the word fat. Almost everyone wants to eliminate all the fat in their bodies, and stay slim. However, the truth is that fat is essential for a person's well-being, particularly healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids.

Experts reveal the reasons why women need omega-3 fatty acids. There are actually good and bad fats, and omega-3s belong to the former. Bad fats are saturated fats found in dairy, eggs, and meat, as well as trans fats that are present in cookies, cakes and French fries. Bad fats clog the arteries and increase one's risk for coronary heart disease.

"The good news is that there are good fats, and there are those such as omega-3s that the body cannot do without," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan

Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat, and are believed to be key to optimal health. However, since the human body is unable to naturally produce them, they have to be obtained from food. There are several food sources that contain omega-3s such as fish and plant-based food. There are individuals who use fish oil supplements to obtain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids.

According to the Senior Dietitian of the Nutrition and Dietetics, KK Women's & Children's Hospital (KKH) and a member of the SingHealth group, Nehal Kamdar, there are different types of omega-3 fatty acids, the ALA, EPA and DHA. ALA stands for alpha-linolenic acid, DHA for docosahhexaenoic acid and EPA for eicosapentaenoic acid. The latter two are essential for the human body and health.

There are certain reasons why women should include omega-3 fats in their diet. There have been studies that found omega-3s, which have high levels of anti-inflammatory properties, can help ease menstrual pain. Some scientific evidence also revealed that the nutrient can help drive away period blues, control hormonal fluctuations and provide mood stability.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study that found women who consumed fish three times a week were 33 percent less susceptible to developing polys in the colon, which reduces their risk for colon cancer.

Osteoporosis is characterized as the loss of bone density overtime and it is a condition that women are susceptible to. The good news is that in some studies, it was found that omega-3 fatty acids can potentially help women fight osteoporosis. The fats are believed to work by increasing the calcium levels and improving the bone density in women (http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K).
