Police Are Now More Alert On The Spread of Flakka and It's Bizarre Effects

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 28, 2015 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- According to Florida Today, Florida police are keeping an eye out for the spread of flakka, a synthetic drug which has been causing its users to exhibit extremely bizarre behaviors.

Flakka, can be found in the form of small crystals or powder, according to Commander Dan Lynch of the Melbourne Police Department. It can be snorted, injected, or inhaled from a vaporizer. "It's a synthetic drug, so it's kind of scary," said Lynch, who also believes the drug has a high potential for abuse. Flakka has been compared to bath salts due to the terms of it's effects and its rapid popularity in the mainstream world.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has identified the drug's rapidly growing popularity. Its relatively low price point in comparison drugs such as as crystal meth or crack cocaine, can be attributed as its cause for enhanced popularity. According to Fox News, Ivey believes that even if law enforcement is able to get a grip on this drug, "a new one being introduced isn't usually too far away."

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says that the drug is referred to as "gravel" in other states. "Flakka causes delusions, hallucinations and can increase body temperature to a dangerous level. Parents should talk to their children about this deadly synthetic drug and be aware of what their children are searching for and buying online," said Bondi in a press release.

The attorney general has advised that parents who suspect that their child may be using flakka, should immediately contact their local law enforcement agency or a crisis intervention center.

A medical associate from West Palm Beach Drug Rehab comments "I am happy that the police are attempting to raise awareness about this monster drug. It's absolutely insane how quickly this drug became popular in South Florida. It seems as if every week there's a new story of someone acting bizarre out in public because they were high on flakka. This drug is ruining our city and we must get it off of our streets."
