Research suggests that osteoarthritis may potentially increase heart disease risk. He also added that the study was the first prospective longitudinal study of the connection between CVD and OA.
Dr. Rahman and his colleagues believe that adults who suffer from osteoarthritis may be more susceptible to cardiovascular problems because of the risk factors they are more likely to have, such as obesity, inactivity, muscle weakness, chronic inflammation and the use of NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are known to significantly increase heart attack risk. NSAIDs include diclofenac, celecoxib, naproxen and meloxicam.
