Groundbreaking Study Investigates The Anti-depressant Effects Of Turmeric Extract

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 22, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Depression is considered to be one of the silent killers nowadays. Many people who are clinically depressed often succumb to depression. While there are many pharmaceutical drugs used to fight it, a natural ingredient is becoming more and more popular for its anti-depressant effects.

A groundbreaking study investigates the anti-depressant effects of turmeric extract. Turmeric is an ancient, therapeutic spice that contains a powerful healing ingredient called curcumin. Curcumin is popularized by its antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

"Curcumin supplements are widely available in the market, and are a very popular remedy among individuals who suffer from inflammation-related ailments such as arthritis," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

The journal called Phytotherapy Research published a new study that provides the remarkable result of a controlled and randomized clinical trial. It revealed that the curcumin in turmeric is an effective and safe remedy for serious states of depression.

The study was performed in India at the Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College. It involved individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The study attempted to compare the safety and efficacy of curcumin with a particular antidepressant in 60 participants with MDD for six weeks.

It was found that curcumin was tolerated well by the participants, and it can be used as a safe and effective remedy for individuals with MDD, but without suicidal tendencies or other psychotic disorders. There were previous animal-based research studies that revealed curcumin is an effective antidepressant remedy in animals.

The use of curcumin is believed to be extremely safe. According to a study, oral doses of 8 grams or more in a day are well tolerated. Since the effectiveness of curcumin is comparable with an anti-depressant, researchers suggest that it can potentially be a great remedy for the psychological condition. There are many advantages of using curcumin over anti-depressant drugs, and one is that its use is not associated with side effects.

Curcumin is believed to have powerful neuroprotective properties, which work by improving, restoring, and maintaining healthy brain function. There are many other health benefits associated with the use of the therapeutic ingredient. There is even an increasing number of people who make curcumin a part of their daily diet.

Many people are resorting to curcumin supplements as a remedy for a variety of conditions. Curcumin supplements that contain a black pepper extract called BioPerine are well preferred by consumers. This black pepper extract is believed to have the ability to increase curcumin absorption inside the body (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
