Research Showed That Millions Are Reaping The Benefits Of Having Hip And Knee Implants

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 22, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Arthritic conditions cause pain and suffering among patients, and this has led many of them to resort to various treatments. Surgeries are one of the treatment options that are widely popular nowadays, and this is due to the positive effects they bring into the life of sufferers.

Research showed that millions are reaping the benefits of having hip and knee implants. There is an estimated number of 7 million individuals in the United States who have had hip or knee replacement surgeries. This news is something that patients are glad about.

Mayo Clinic researchers presented the findings of the study they conducted at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual conference. The study highlighted the compelling need of the healthcare system to get ready for the ongoing care that patients with hip or knee implants would need as they age.

In previous studies, it was shown that there are about 1 million total hip and knee replacements done in the United States every year. This number is expected to grow; nonetheless, it is important to note that exactly how many people are living with prosthetic devices has not yet been validated.

Daniel Berry, M.D., professor of orthopedics at Mayo Clinic and the study's senior author, has stated that the number indicates that there are roughly 1.5 times as many patients who had joint replacement in the United States as heart failure. He added that the estimates are higher than stroke and within the same ballpark as coronary heart disease.

According to researchers, there are many more people who have new knees than hips, as there are approximately 1.5 percent of people in the U.S. who are living with a knee replacement and only 0.8 with a hip replacement. They also revealed that the number of joint implant procedures was more prevalent in women.

"Age is considered to be a major factor as the percentage of individuals who underwent surgery increased with age," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

According to Dr. Berry, if it weren't for the procedures, there would be 7 million Americans made to suffer from discomfort, pain, dependency and less mobility. He also added that the procedures have significantly transformed the lives of millions of arthritis patients.

Many arthritis sufferers, and those who are susceptible to the condition, often use a wide variety of treatments including natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. This is especially true for individuals who have not considered having the procedure as an option (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
