Experts Investigate The Benefits Of Fish Oil For Individuals With Kidney Failure

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 17, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- There are many medical conditions nowadays with early symptoms that are subtle and hard to detect. One is kidney failure, which is usually caused by chronic kidney disease. While there are medications that are used to help sufferers, there is a natural alternative that is catching the interest of researchers.

Experts investigate the benefits of fish oil for individuals with kidney failure. According to them, those who merely have chronic kidney failure and have not yet been diagnosed with kidney failure can potentially take more advantage of the natural alternative.

"Fish oil supplements have been very popular these days. They have been believed to help improve protection against various ailments such heart disease," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Otherwise known as renal failure, kidney failure refers to the condition that is characterized by slight renal scarring. It also refers to individuals whose kidneys do not function anymore and are on dialysis. Fish oil is believed to have some positive effects for individuals who suffer from the condition.

It has not been validated yet if fish oil can provide health benefits to kidney sufferers on a long-term basis. However, the number of nephrologists who recommend the natural alternative to individuals with kidney failure is surprisingly increasing.

James Donadio, Jr., whose research paper was published in 1999, focused on the long term use of fish oil among individuals with IgA nephropathy. The study, which involved following the participants for an average of 6.4 years, has given kidney sufferers hope mainly because of its positive results. It was found that intake of fish oil supplements could potentially slow down the IgA nephropathy progression.

According to the researchers, 85 percent of the participants achieved an improvement in their kidney function eight years after the start of the study. Donadio's research was considered to be the first credible evidence, which was able to demonstrate how kidney failure progression could potentially be offset by the natural alternative.

"There are many healthcare providers who recommend the use of fish oil. This natural alternative is widely popularized by EPA and DHA, which are powerful omega-3 fatty acids that it contains," added O'Sullivan.

Since there are quite a number of fish oil supplements available nowadays, it is imperative that consumers know how to make a wise and well-informed decision in buying a product. The most recommended fish oil supplements are those that contain the highest concentration of omega-3s (amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K).
