Omega-3 Fatty Acids Believed To Be As Helpful As NSAIDs

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 15, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to be very beneficial for overall health. As a matter of fact, there have been several studies that found they can help in improving one's protection against cardiovascular ailments. There are other known health benefits associated with the use of fish oil, and some are potentially favorable to arthritis sufferers.

Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to be as helpful as NSAIDs. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, are widely used by individuals who suffer from arthritic conditions. This pharmaceutical drug is formulated to reduce pain and inflammation among arthritis sufferers, and help them improve the quality of their lives.

"Fish oils contain a certain fat type called omega-3 fatty acids, and they are typically found in the tissues of fish," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Experts suggest that omega-3 fats can potentially have some beneficial effects among those who suffer from arthritis. It is believed that the fats can help reduce inflammation caused by arthritis. With the use of fish oil, there is a chance that arthritis sufferers can achieve joint pain relief in the same way they do when they take NSAIDs.

While the beneficial effects of omega-3s have not been studied in all types of arthritis, current research suggests that they are helpful for individuals who suffer from inflammatory arthritis, such as psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis. There has also been a study that found that the intake of fish oils can potentially help control the symptoms of lupus and osteoarthritis.

"Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be naturally produced by the body. They can only be obtained by consuming food such as seed oils, nut and oily fish," added O'Sullivan.

According to research, long-term intake of omega-3s could help reduce the dependence on NSAIDs among individuals who suffer from certain forms of arthritis. This means they are less susceptible to the side effects associated with the use of pharmaceutical pain relief drugs such as NSAIDs. Some evidence has also shown that regular intake of fish oil could play a role in the prevention and management of depression.

Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in oily fish such as herring, sardines, tuna and mackerel. They can also be found in flaxseed and canola oil, which are not as effective against inflammation as fish oils. Incorporating fish oil in one's diet is believed to be beneficial for overall health.

There are many fish oil brands available nowadays, and experts suggest that people check out the level of omega-3s contained in every capsule. Labels often state the amount of omega-3s, such as DHA and EPA, on the product label (amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K/).
