Several Studies Reveal The Potential Ability Of Glucosamine To Help Arthritis Sufferers

(Medical-NewsWire.com, March 26, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Arthritis sufferers are resorting to a wide variety of pain management options in an attempt to improve their condition. Now, it seems that a natural supplement known as glucosamine is getting more popular among both sufferers and researchers.

Several studies have now revealed the potential ability of glucosamine to help individuals with arthritic conditions. Glucosamine is actually a major component of the body's joint cartilage. The glucosamine levels in the body decrease gradually among the aging or the athletic population. Taking glucosamine supplements is believed to be helpful in compensating for this continuing loss.

"Glucosamine is often obtained from vegetable sources or the shells of shellfish such as crab, shrimp or lobster. It is typically available as a supplement, and is often combined with another natural ingredient known as chondroitin," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Experts believe that glucosamine has the capacity to slow down the deterioration of cartilage, improve joint mobility and provide relief among arthritis sufferers. Glucosamine is considered a building block for the repair, maintenance and growth of cartilage. It is believed to have the potential to lubricate the joints, promote water retention in cartilage and prevent breakdown.

This natural alternative is often described by consumers as being more effective than NSAIDs, especially in easing the symptoms of osteoarthritis. However, supplements generally take longer to work, as they require time to build up in the body.

There have been several studies that have indicated that glucosamine can be effective in providing pain relief and improving mobility in arthritis sufferers. A recent review of 20 studies discussing glucosamine found that the natural alternative demonstrated potential in reducing stiffness and joint pain as well as improving function.

The 2006 Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) involving 1,600 individuals with knee osteoarthritis as subjects revealed that the participants experienced significant pain relief while using glucosamine. It was also found that the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin could be effective in helping participants with knee osteoarthritis.

Another study found that individuals who used a combination of NSAIDs and glucosamine experienced improvements in their symptoms. However, researchers added that those who took glucosamine alone also experienced significant improvement.

Many experts recommend the use of glucosamine supplements to help manage the symptoms of arthritis. Combination supplements are most popular among consumers, especially those that include glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and turmeric. Experts strongly suggest consumers take the time to select the product that's right for their needs (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/).
