In the study, researchers investigated whether using red wine could increase SHBG levels to a higher degree in comparison to other substances. This research has potential benefits for the 17% of women of reproductive age who suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, a potentially devastating hormone disorder, with low levels of sex hormone binding globule being a common finding in sufferers.
