(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 13, 2014 ) Mill Valley, CA -- Inflora Botanica, a natural skin and body care company that sells on Amazon.com announces it's first test run of eco packaging. It shipped this test run to the Phoenix, AZ fulfillment center on June 10th, 2014.
Says Inflora Botanica CEO and founder Laura Lambert "this is fantastic news for us because we feel very strongly about being stewards for the natural world, for mother nature, for the earth that sustains us. We thought bubble wrap was our only option with Amazon but it turns out that this is not so. We are thrilled to work within Amazon's guidelines to figure out something that is natural and ultimately not plastic for packaging our organic rosehip oil.
The packaging consists of a 100% biodegradable recycled corrugated cardboard and cellophane bags that are made 100% from plants. Says Lambert "We are told that they biodegrade over time in the landfill, which is fantastic. Of course it's our preference to have something you can put in your home compost but apparently the technologists haven't yet created something that has the strength we need when we need it, and then that composting ability. Soon, we hope!"
Inflora reports that they hope to get customer feedback in this process. The units will begin shipping from Amazon to customers the week of June 23rd, 2014.
Further information about sustainable packaging trends is offered by Minal Mistry, a sustainable materials expert, "There are companies that are also thinking about moving away from fossil fuel based materials such as plastics towards more bio-based materials. This trend is showing innovation in non-traditional fibers such as bagasse, switch grass, bamboo, hemp, which is introducing new types of papers and plastics. This is essential work that can help move the system away from the dependence on petroleum, and holds potential for packaging material sustainability."
Lambert agrees with Mistry's report of the trend, saying that "definitely, our goal is to move entirely away from petroleum based products. With this first roll out of our new eco packaging, we have done just that."
Lambert further states "like we have said before, our ultimate dream is to use the part of the rose hips that are not pressed into oil as packaging, so that all parts can be used. Zero waste!"
