47.6 Million Plastic Surgeries Performed Globally in 2013

(Medical-NewsWire.com, January 07, 2014 ) New York, NY. - 2013 ended with many positive economic indicators for G8 Nations around the world. Just as Industries such as retail, auto and manufacturing saw slight gains in 2013 - as did the cosmetic surgery industry. According to the initial statistics released by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons some 44.6 million surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures were performed last year, up 7 percent since 2012. In addition, some 15.5 million reconstructive procedures were also performed in 2013, up nearly three percent.

"These global statistics are a good indicator of what we saw last year here in Thailand," said PST Medical's Vice President Rose Montri. "For the fifth consecutive year now we have noticed that non-surgical cosmetic surgery requests are the most significant requested procedures, while traditional surgeries remain relatively stable each year. This could be due to the younger demographics that we encounter. Younger people do not need surgical alternation. Older patients typically request surgical options while younger prefer more natural treatments like the stem cell facelift or Ulthera."

Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Surgeries increased by nearly 8 percent, with more than 38 million procedures in 2013. The five most request minimally-invasive surgeries last year were:

• Botulinum "Botox Type A" (22.1 million procedures, up 7 percent)

• Soft tissue and Dermal fillers (7.9 million procedures, up 6 percent)

• Chemical Face peel (4.9 million procedures, up 4 percent)

• Laser hair removal (2.1 million procedures, up 6 percent)

• Microdermabrasion (1.5 million procedures, up 5 percent)

Surgical Aesthetic Enhancements increased by 3 percent, with nearly 9.6 million procedures in 2013. The top five surgical procedures were:

• Breast augmentation using Implants (4.5 million procedures, up 3 percent)

• Nose reshaping (2.1 million procedures, up 1.5 percent)

• Eyelid surgeries (1.6 million procedures, up 4 percent)

• Liposuction (900,000 procedures, up 3 percent)

• Facelift (500,000 procedures, up 6 percent)

Aesthetic Breast Enhancement Surgeries such as breast augmentation and breast lifts (1.4 million procedures, up 2 percent) from last year, while gynecomastia or male breast reduction also increased as nearly 450,000 men performed chest liposuction or excision surgery, up 3 percent.

Breast augmentations and bodysculpting procedures like liposuction and tummy tucks, are typically the most popular procedures each year including 2013" said Mrs. Montri. "Thermage CPT rejuvenation and FACEtite therapy are also very popular to quickly eradicate most shallow wrinkles while tightening any sagging skin simultaneously. We also noticed that more and more men are open to taking makeover holidays to quickly restore or maintain a youthful glow with these inexpensive cosmetic procedures."
