The Temp IR Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer works on the latest infrared technology. When held at a distance of 3 – 5 centimetres (cms) from the forehead, it can accurately read the body temperature from the infrared waves emitted by the temporal artery, which runs just below the skin, across the forehead.
Temporal artery temperature recording is more accurate than tympanic membrane temperature, which relies on readings from a thermometer positioned in the ear or the rectum of the patient. These readings can be inaccurate for two reasons: the positioning of the thermometer may vary, and if the patient is particularly young or old, and doesn't realise what is happening to them, they may resist attempts to record the temperature. TempIR is a totally non-contact system, and the reading is taken from within a prescribed range, so it is fast, accurate, and non-invasive.
