Stryker Hip Implant is Defective and Causes Injuries, According to Lawsuit

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 03, 2013 ) New York, NY -- According to the complaint, a woman was given the Stryker Rejuvenate hip stem on her left side in August of 2011. She alleges that the devices was the defective and caused her to suffer various injuries. The suit seeks compensation for loss of services and loss of consortium of her spouse.

The Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Stems are metal-on-metal hip plants that contain metal components that come in contact with one another, which can cause the release of metal ions. Many of these types of hip implants have recalled their products and Stryker followed suit in June of 2012. Adverse reactions follow the surgery include hip dislocation, bone fracture, local nerve damage, device loosening, bone loss, and joint infection.

The U.S. FDA has since put the metal-on-metal implants are classified under high-failure rates with great scrutiny after there were many reports of metal fragments being released into the bloodstream. In January of this year, the FDA releases new guidelines for patients implanted with all metal devices. The agency encourages those patients to be regularly seen physical examinations and diagnostic imaging.
