(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 19, 2013 ) Dublin 4, Ireland -- In the past year, The Prime Minister and several government subsidies have cracked down on bogus claims of whiplash in minor car accidents. According to Nick Lancaster, a Parliamentary Correspondent for The Plymouth Herald, not only does it raise insurance premiums, but also raises the entire cost of living.
Doctors and claim management companies, or CMCs, who have encouraged motorists to submit claims of whiplash, have come under fire in the last year for continually causing insurance premiums to go up. Whiplash claims were so abundant that, according to All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance and Financial Services, it was a topic of general conversation.
What is Whiplash?
Whiplash is non-medical term for a neck injury caused by sudden movement of the head. In regards to vehicle accidents, this can be caused when a person puts on the brakes too hard or has to turn in a sharp manner. While many believe it is related to neck and back pain, whiplash is exclusive to the neck and head.
Now, after a year of strict laws regarding whiplash claims, The Commons Transport Select Committee is investigating the full extent of damage caused by the bogus claims. According to the committee, the increase in insurance premiums affected the cost of living as family budgets shrunk in other areas to fit the motor insurance costs.
Unfortunately, there’s not way to truly criminally investigate the claims companies without continuing to rise the cost. So in an effort to curb the frauds, new laws were put in place last year. The good news is that insurance premiums have gone down significantly, already this year by €30, and are expected to drop at least another €100 by the end of this year.
