The pH of a substance, which stands for “power” or “potential of Hydrogen”, is the measure from 0 to 14 of the acidity or alkalinity of the substance. A neutral substance such as distilled water has a pH of 7. The pH of any acid is below 7, and any alkali has a pH above 7.
