(Medical-NewsWire.com, October 15, 2012 ) Dearborn, MI—To help support the large number of Michigan families facing a hunger crisis and in need of emergency food support, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® moving company locations across the state are hosting the Movers for Meals food drive with the goal of collecting 28,000 pounds of food to stock up Food Bank Council of Michigan member food pantries in preparation for winter.
According to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, the number of families classified as “food insecure” makes up 13 percent of Michigan households. “Food insecure” families are classified by the United States Department of Agriculture as having difficulty consistently getting the food they need for an active and healthy life.
The Feeding America (FA) system in Michigan provides emergency food support for nearly 1.2 million different people annually. Of those who depend on the FA system for emergency food support, 42% report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel.
The Ann Arbor TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, located at 5864 Interface and the Brownstown TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, located at 19001 Sibley Road, are collecting donations for Food Gatherers and Gleaners Community Food Bank by partnering with organizations throughout the community including Annie’s Children’s Center, East Arbor Charter Academy, Rainbow Child Care Center of Chelsea, Taylor Exemplar Charter Academy, Quest Charter Academy, WAAM and WXYT.

Movers for Meals will run Monday, Sept. 10 through Nov. 16 — the Friday before Thanksgiving. Anyone interested in supporting the food drive can drop off non-perishable food donations at participating TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations in Michigan.
Organizations interested in supporting Movers for Meals as a collection site will be supplied with free donation boxes and donation delivery to Food Gatherers.
