(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 26, 2007 ) (EMAILWIRE.COM, September 26, 2007) CHARLESTON, SC, -- “The Death of Michael Smith”, a film focusing on three men with the same name who are linked to a mysterious murder, is fresh and innovative drama. This bold film takes a unique approach to storytelling by combining present events with past experiences. Each character is masterly woven into a dark world by screenwriter and director Daniel Casey. “The film's idea came completely out of functional reality,” Casey explains. “The writing is heavily inspired by Latin American cinema and the work of Terrence Malick. I'm in love with both.”All three main characters, each named Michael Smith, don’t know one another, but two of their lives change after the third is murdered. The film’s underlying theme involves the relationships people have with themselves along with others. Viewers find themselves quickly immersed into the plot. In an interesting twist, all three Michael Smith characters are protagonists while simultaneously being one another’s antagonist. “I wanted to tell an endearing story, one that worked in a professional capacity, and I had to make it work with what little I had,” Casey said. The film was shot in Detroit during the winter of 2005. “I know a lot of tricks. I have worked the film into an aesthetic piece,” Casey said. The Death of Michael Smith is available through Atlas Worldwide Syndications and Distributions. A screening of the film will take place during the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California on November 1st at 7:00p.m. About Atlas Worldwide Syndications & Distributions: Atlas Worldwide is a dedicated company that offers television marketing and distribution services to our clients.
