(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 25, 2012 ) Salt Lake City, UT – The State Senate has passed a bill, based on a 22-5 vote, that will require the state to provide the same health insurance policies to the state funded schools that they are requiring the small business owns to have.
The bill does not have full approval as of yet. It has just passed through the Senate and will now be required to work its way through the House before it will be imposed, but with the vast majority of the Senate agreeing to the bill it has a very good chance to be passed in the House as well.
This bill was presented for the simple fact that the state should not be able to impose health insurance practices on small businesses that they do not happen to provide. Many people feel that if the state expects small business owners to allot extra money in order to meet their new healthcare insurance policies than the state should be required to do exactly that.
Senator John Valentine stated, "We're kidding ourselves if we think we can impose an insurance mandate and not fund it, the state needs to put its money where its mouth is.”
Many small business owners have been hit with requirement after requirement through the state legislations throughout the country, and many of these businesses are finding it rather difficult to keep all of their employees and fund everything that the state requires of them. This eventually leads to the downfall of many of the small businesses, and in a time when jobs are as sparse as they currently are the state should be doing everything that they can in order to help these small businesses keep their doors open.
There is some fear that the bill may backfire and eventually lead to many companies dropping what they do provide in health insurance. Some of the Senators that were opposed to the bill feel that the cases should be considered on a case to case basis and not lump all small businesses into the same category by having a state requirement.
While many people are anxious to see what the outcome of the bill will be only time will tell if the House chooses to pass the bill, and if it was the right decision to require the state.
