This is what Jesus means when He says, "In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you." (John 14:20) and "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:4-5) NOTE: "Abide in me, and I in you." means "Live in me, and I in you." This refers to the actual spiritual presence of Christ inside us, as well as our actual spiritual presence inside Him. This mutual indwelling of His Spirit in us and our spirit in Him occurs when we freely choose to accept Him, inviting Him into our lives as our personal Lord and Saviour. As He says . . . "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
