Clotting Sponge In Trauma Kit Uses Inert Mineral For Clotting

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 09, 2015 ) Clearwater, Florida -- First Aid Shoppe, providers of advanced survival and first aid gear and kits to professionals and the general public, reported today that the QuikClot Advanced Clotting Sponge in their ResQue 1st Trauma Kit uses the inert mineral zeolite to promote clotting. In tests the use of zeolite as a hemostatic (clotting) agent controls hemorrhage and reduces the instances of mortality from otherwise lethal wounds. Zeolite, and the QuikClot clotting sponge, is battle tested and approved by the Department of Defense, and is in use on the battlefield by all four branches of the US Military. Zeolite has had no adverse reactions reported from over 8 million units shipped.

"QuikClot stops bleeding fast," says Anna Loehwing, COO of First Aid Shoppe. "That's its primary function. When applied directly to a wound it accelerates the body's natural clotting action and reduces or stops bleeding completely. QuikClot is meant to provide a way, on the scene, to stabilize the victim of a serious injury until help can arrive."

The ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet includes the QuikClot Advanced Clotting Sponge, as well as a quick-use tourniquet. The SWAT-T (Stretch Wrap And Tuck - Tactical) tourniquet is able to be placed high in the armpit or groin area to stem or stop major arterial bleeding. It can also be used as a compression bandage.

"This is a true 'save a life' kit," says Ms. Loehwing. "This isn't a general purpose first aid kit. It's compact, and focused. The items in the kit are designed with one purpose in mind: stop serious bleeding and stabilize the victim. The whole idea is to keep them stable until help can arrive."

In addition to the QuikClot clotting sponge and the SWAT-T tourniquet, the ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet includes antiseptic wipes and gloves, medical tape, gauze and bandages. It is available on Amazon.
