Research Finds Fish Oil Helpful For Anxiety Reduction

(Medical-NewsWire.com, October 05, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- Anxiety is an unpleasant state of emotion that people usually experience at one point or another. While it is normal to experience it, it also causes trouble when it is severe and happens regularly. The good news is that there is a natural ingredient believed to be helpful for the condition.

Research finds fish oil helpful for anxiety reduction. There are other mood disorders that fish oil is believed to be helpful with, such as bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and major depression. The therapeutic effects of fish oil are believed to be coming from its ingredient called omega-3 fatty acids.

"Omega-3 fats are healthy fats essential for body functioning. They can be obtained by eating fish, or the use of fish oil supplements," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

The human body cannot naturally produce omega-3 fatty acids, and this is why people need to obtain them from food. Some of the food sources of omega-3 fats are salmon, tuna, sardines, and herring. Those who are uncomfortable eating fish on a daily basis may take fish oil supplements.

The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry published a study that revealed fish oil is as effective as medications used for depression. A study reported by Science Daily and completed in Finland revealed that low fish consumption and the development of depression were closely associated. In a Dutch study, it was also shown that participants who suffered from depression, and non-sufferers had varying daily intakes of omega-3 fatty acids.

"Since there are many therapeutic benefits of omega-3 fats, fish oil supplements have become widely available in the market," added O'Sullivan.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's Joseph R. Hibbeln, believes that serotonin has something to do with the effects of omega-3s in mood disorders. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a major role in depression and anxiety. It is believed that its functionality is positively affected by omega-3 fats. Anxiety and depression have similar chemical profiles, and are both characterized by low levels of serotonin. Experts suggest that omega-3s enhances the functionality of serotonin, and thus aid in depression and prevent anxiety.

An increasing number of people are using fish oil supplements to increase their immunity against various ailments, especially cardiovascular diseases. There are other benefits of using fish oil, and this is why this natural alternative is very popular in the market. The most recommended fish oil supplements are those with capsules that have enteric coating, and have high concentrations of omega-3 fats (http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K).
