Omega-3 Fish Oil Helps Kids With Attention Deficit Disorder

(Medical-NewsWire.com, March 06, 2015 ) Trittau, Schleswig-Holstein -- New research showing that omega-3 fatty acids help children suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder has been hailed by Dr. Tobias Ihde, creator and developer of the popular Optimum Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement, as "great news for parents."

Dr. Ihde, CEO and president of DTI UG, added, "This is yet more validation of the wide-ranging benefits of taking omega-3 fatty acids. They're an absolutely essential part of everyone's diet at every stage of life."

In the double-blind, placebo-controlled study, conducted at Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, 75 children and adolescents with ADHD were either given omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids or a placebo for three months. Then all of the participants were given omega-3 and omega-6 for three months. Neither the researchers nor the participants know whether they had received the active ingredients until the study was completed.

Some 35 percent of the children and adolescents who had the inattentive subtype of ADHD called ADD, showed "clinically relevant" improvement in their symptoms.

It's estimated that between three to six percent of all school-age children have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), a disorder that can include difficulty controlling impulses and temper, sitting still, waiting, or being attentive. ADHD is often treated with controversial stimulant medications, which are effective for most, but do not work for everyone.

In the Swedish study the levels of omega-3 and omega-6 in blood were also measured and those who had a clear improvement of their symptoms also showed a better balance between these two fatty acids.

Optimum Omega 3 contains three to five times more DHA and EPA than most other brands in the market. It is purified through one of the most sophisticated molecular distillation processes available and is enteric coated. It has been a best-seller on amazon.com.

Many studies have shown that Omega-3 fish oil supplements provide protection against heart disease and are beneficial for brain health, the joints, eyes and immune system, skin and hair.
