Turmeric Research Shows Potential For Multiple Health Benefits

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 01, 2014 ) Portland, Oregon -- Multiple studies indicate that turmeric is an effective anti-inflammatory and beneficial for those who have joint pain. It is also believed to be an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals that contribute to aging. The popularity of turmeric dietary supplements has led researchers to examine other potentialities for the natural remedy and the results have been surprising.

"The results of various studies and research projects are supporting what individuals who use turmeric have said for years," said Michelle O'Sullivan, spokesperson for VitaBreeze. "While all the evidence isn't in yet, it appears that science is supporting what traditional Asian medical practitioners have been claiming – turmeric has a variety of therapeutic applications."

Medical practitioners in other countries have been using their knowledge of natural herbs for centuries. As science progressed in the U.S., that practice has been largely discounted by the medical community as old-wives tales. Research is now indicating that the herbal lore employed by village wise women had a basis in fact.

Current studies indicate that turmeric is at least as effective as 14 man-made prescription medications for treating conditions ranging from arthritis pain to diabetes. Turmeric excels as an anti-inflammatory and studies from 1999 to the present have shown it to be a viable alternative to steroid therapy and a host of anti-inflammatory drugs that often have unwanted and dangerous consequences.

Turmeric was found to work effectively as a blood thinner and on level footing with some anti-depressant medications. A 2009 study indicated turmeric was at least 500 times more efficient at activating the body's use of glucose in diabetic patients than traditional drugs. One area that's exhibiting promising results is the use of turmeric for cancers that are resistant to traditional therapies.

Turmeric has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in medical treatments, yet its efficacy as an anti-inflammatory for addressing joint pain has been amply demonstrated by those using turmeric-based dietary supplements.

"No one should stop taking medications prescribed by their physicians," said O'Sullivan. "Turmeric holds properties that medical science is only beginning to uncover, but we do know that when other all natural ingredients are combined with turmeric, their effects are amplified."

For those with arthritis pain, a turmeric dietary supplement can provide anti-inflammatory abilities to relieve pain and address the breakdown of connective tissues at the cellular level. Large online retailers, such as www.Amazon.com, offer a wide selection of supplement brands. Consumers should exercise due diligence and research their choice of turmeric supplements so they can make an informed decision.
