(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 25, 2014 ) Portland, Oregon -- Gravity Mobility Aids has developed a walking cane with 21st Century engineering. Named the Handy Cane, it is not the antiquated hook cane used by past generations. Modern design built into The Handy Cane offers the user mobility benefits that allow for better movement with less pain.
A common issue with old-fashioned canes is wrist pain. A specially-moulded handle at the top of The Handy Cane fits the hand so as to force an open-palm grip. Weight thus distributes evenly across the entire palm relieving the wrist of pressure. This, in particular, can make usage easier for stroke victims or arthritis sufferers.
The anti-skid foot features four prongs around a round rubber base. More than one contact point enhances The Handy Cane's ground-grip abilities. Elasticity in the prongs provides shock absorbency to the user's arm when the cane comes in contact with the ground. The result is less joint pain in the wrist, elbow and shoulder.
No one person is exactly like another. Gravity Mobility Aids knows this and that is why The Handy Cane contains 10 increments of adjustable height levels, ranging from a low of 30 inches (77 centimeters) to a high of 40 inches (100 centimeters). When it's time to put The Handy Cane away, it can shrink to a discreet 25 inches (65 centimeters) for storage.
If a user has a walking cane, there is a reason. Assistance is required to walk. Likewise, a walking cane user should not be required to find a place to hang the cane, or a wall to lean it against. Gravity solves this problem with a walking cane that stands by itself, leaving both hands available to perform tasks.
