Apex Natural™ Comments On The Use Of Turmeric Curcumin For Inflammation

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 01, 2013 ) Ashland, OR -- A spokesperson for Apex Natural™, who sells a curcumin supplement, said "While curcumin is being studied in regards to many medical conditions, its anti-inflammatory properties are what has been studied worldwide and really excites researchers for helping a wide range of inflammation induced health conditions."

Researchers have found that curcumin, which is a key natural compound in Turmeric, can naturally help with inflammation. In order to get more concentrated amounts of curcumin there are products that offer 95% curcumin extract vs. the 4-6% curcumin normally found in Turmeric extract.

Curcumin is believed to naturally inhibit several different molecules in the body that are commonly associated with inflammation. It has been studied not only for joint inflammation but also in providing anti-inflammation support to other parts of the body like coronary inflammation, skin inflammation, and possibly for other serious medical conditions like Alzheimers and Cancer treatments.

There have been some studies done on common health conditions caused by inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis that showed beneficial results from taking curcumin without the potential long term risks that could result from taking common pain medications for extended periods of time.

In a small double-blind randomized 6-week human study of 107 patients that suffered from osteoarthritis, one group was given 500mg of curcumin 4 times daily while the other group was given 800mg of ibuprofen daily. Both groups at the end of the study found similar degree of improvement in their symptoms showing curcumin working as well as ibuprofen.

In another double-blind, randomized, controlled trial, curcumin was compared to phenylbutazone(a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Curcumin was given at 1200mg daily and deemed effective in helping with reduced joint swelling, longer walking time, and less morning stiffness among test patients. Phenylbutazone provided a greater benefit but curcumin did provide beneficial results.

Is Turmeric Curcumin Safe?

Turmeric is classified by the US FDA as "Generally Recognized as Safe" (GRAS) and has been ingested by humans for hundreds of years with no major issues. It has been tested in human studies with large dosages with no serious adverse reactions.
