(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 23, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that three types of male enhancement products sold online contain hidden ingredients that include prescription medicine.
“Rock it Man”, “Libido Sexual Enhancer” and “Stiff Days” contain active ingredients that are similar compounds in the prescription drugs for erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra and Cialis. These ingredients can cause serious side effects in men being treated with medicines for different types of heart disease and should only be prescribed by a doctor who knows about such medications.
According to the FDA, Hydroxythiohomosildenafil was the compound found in “Rock it Man”, a non-FDA approved male “enhancer” that was unlisted on the ingredients. That component is similar to FDA-approved sildanefil, the active ingredient in prescription medicines used to treat penile dysfunctions.
Hydroxythiohomosildenafil can negatively react with nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels due to the amount of blood that will move towards the penis, especially in men taking medicines for high blood pressure. It is unclear how much of the ingredient is in each each pill, so there is no way to tell if taking it is safe for someone on these types of medications.
The FDA advises anyone who has purchased the pills to discontinue use and throw them away.The administration says that this serves to provide everyone with the information that growing trends of “all-natural” supplements to aid weight loss, sexual performance and muscle building may not be safe to take.
