(Medical-NewsWire.com, February 08, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The field of nursing has been experiencing shortages across the country. Less students are capable of filling the positions properly, while many positions open up in hospitals all across the United States. But what is most concerning is that the faculty positions for teaching these students that wish to enter the field is growing smaller by the year. NursingFacultyJobs.com has now created an infographic that shows just how prevalent the problem is, and how those interested can enter a field that is not only satisfying, but could use great individuals with purpose-driven goals.
The infographic points out the need for qualified individuals, as over 75,000 qualified applicants had to be turned away by baccalaureate programs in 2011 due to problems like insufficient staff, insufficient clinical sites, lacking space, lack of clinical preceptors, and budgetary constraints.
These shortages are causing nursing programs to not take in particular students at entry-level programs at a two-thirds margin. And according to the infographic, there are a total of 1,181 faculty vacancies currently available by a survey by the AACN in the fall of 2012.
Faculty lacking the proper doctoral-preparedness is one of the number one problems at one-third of the overall reasons cited. There are 94% of CEOs believing that the shortage is, and will continue to be, a true problem when it comes to handling the health profession as a whole. Another 69% believe that the shortages are a problem for not only the schools themselves, but the entire institution and sector.
The far-reaching problems within the industry appear to be growing, according to the infographic, with budget constraints making it harder for new entries to find work, and intensive competition ensuing for existing work. Meanwhile, the retirement age continues to climb, meaning that more individuals who are within the jobs feel trapped in them far beyond their most useful years. The average rate now is over 62 years of age.
