"Regular insurance just doesn't cover the care you need for longer-lasting injuries or illnesses." Long-term care insurance, a relatively new instrument, is designed to pay for nursing home care, assisted living, and home health care, "which can drain your assets if you're not covered," he says. "People need to see how easily they can avert disaster -- just by filling the insurance gap. Why should you lose everything, including your independence, just because you're living longer, which should be a good thing?" Shorts will be offering advice to business owners and managers, too. "There are significant tax advantages if they protect employees and themselves through their organization," he says.In 2005 the federal government and five states launched a "Long-Term Care Consumer Awareness Campaign" to combat the ignorance and encourage initiative in the private sector.
